Since at least October of 2022 the FBI has noticed an uptick in scams related to technical support. In these fraud cases, the scammers will pretend to be a company that is offering a technical support service, or even offering a refund for a past service.

These scammers will contact victims by phone, text, or email, and will often craft their messages to appear to be originating from a legitimate source.

The objective of these interactions with victims is to obtain their personal information such as names, addresses, and even financial account numbers. The fraudsters may have victims fill out an online form with their information or will ask for banking details as a part of their scam.

While we are always happy to provide support to those who contact us directly, remember that EECU will never proactively reach out to individuals for technical support. EECU will also never request access to your computer, phone, or online banking login information.

To protect yourself against these scams, ask yourself the following questions before responding to an unsolicited email, text, or phone call:
  1. Is this a service or business I’ve contacted before?
  2. Are they asking for more information than is necessary?
  3. Have I previously requested support for this issue?
If this assessment leads to any uncertainty, do not communicate further with their request.

If you suspect that you may be targeted by a scam, reach out to EECU immediately to ensure the safety of your account.
