District teachers of the year, along with principals, superintendents and family members, gathered at the Bowden Event Center on August 1 for the 2019 Region XI Teachers of the Year Awards Banquet sponsored by EECU.
For nearly 20 years, EECU has sponsored the Education Service Center Region 11 Teacher of the Year Banquet recognizing all the teachers of the year from school districts in the north central Texas region. The Teacher of the Year Program allows districts to submit one elementary and one secondary candidate to compete at the regional and state levels. Seventy-one teachers, representing 39 school districts in Region 11, participated in this year’s competition.

District winners who competed for the regional award were required to submit their resume along with essays detailing: a defining lesson they have developed, a special project or initiative they have spearheaded, an example of how they connected students to their community, and their message/platform should they be selected as the state teacher of the year.

EECU’s President/CEO, Lonnie Nicholson, addressed the over 300 attendees, celebrating and extolling their efforts in pursuit of academic excellence for their students and professional development for themselves.

EECU traces its roots to 1934 in the Fort Worth ISD administration building with the formation of a credit union for teachers and administrators. We were first known as the Fort Worth Teachers Credit Union. In 1976 we changed our name to the Educational Employees Credit Union, eventually becoming more simply known as EECU.
